Introducing reminders to improve the frequency of vital measurements

The problem
A team of designers created a tool to track vital health metrics such as users respiratory rate and heart rate, but inconsistent use made it less effective for healthcare professionals to monitor trends.
To solve this, I introduced strategic reminders, helping users track their vitals regularly and build a clearer picture of their overall health.
The process & team
As the sole UX designer on the project, I collaborated closely with a project manager to gather requirements and examined existing user research and pain points to devise a set of wireframes for testing.
Post approval from my UX manager at Google, we proceeded with the testing phase and ultimately moved forward with development based on the results.

How to set a reminder
When designing the reminder feature, several considerations were taken into account:

-
Frequency of repetition (daily, weekly, etc.)

-
Option to set start and end dates or keep the reminder running indefinitely

-
Monthly reminders set on the 31st will repeat on the last day of the month

-
Ability for users to enable or disable notifications.

How reminders appear on ‘home’
Subtle & Accessible Placement:
-
Displayed as chips under the halo on the home screen.
-
Ensures visibility without disrupting the user experience.
Behaviour & Timing:
-
No fixed time—reminders appear when the user opens Google Fit on the set day.
-
If ignored, the reminder disappears after one day.
User Actions:
-
Close: Dismisses the reminder from the home screen.
-
Tap: Launches the measurement sequence.

Final thoughts
During my time at Beyond, I had the opportunity to work as a contracted UX designer at Google for a year, contributing to multiple projects, including the Fitbit app. This experience allowed me to collaborate with some of the most talented designers in the industry while tackling a diverse range of challenges across both Google and Fitbit. Working within such an innovative environment broadened my perspective, deepened my skill set, and reinforced my passion for creating seamless, user-centric experiences.
